From museums to symphonies, theaters to dance companies, artistic studios to film sets and international festivals, the Arts Internship Program (AIP) puts students in the heart of the action. These carefully selected work sites offer real world experience and professional connections at a critical time in early careers. Students will hone their crafts, learn valuable context while being mentored in the field by distinguished practicing artists and arts organizations.

Housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and overseen by the Senior Associate Dean for Fine Arts and Humanities, the program is open to undergraduate students of any major pursuing an internship in the Arts. Selected students will receive $5000 stipends to complete roughly 250 hours with their host. Internships are expected to take place during summer 2024 or fall 2025. Students may propose their own mentored experience or apply for an opportunity to be placed with a partner site selected through campus connections. These special opportunities are limited and students are encouraged to apply with an internship in mind.

Examples of placements include spending a summer in Chapel Hill working with and learning from dramatists, costume designers and/or set designers at PlayMakers Repertory Company, interning with an alumnus who is an art dealer in New York City, or a mentorship with Madison Wells, a film company in Los Angeles. Students are encouraged to apply for placements with arts practitioners or arts-related businesses.

Applications are now closed. This two step application process includes a first round, requiring a personal statement. A select number of applicants will move onto an interview round with a member of the Arts Internship Program team who will make final selections.

All recipients of funding will be required to submit a midway progress report and and an end of experience impact statement.
